Udavum Idhayam, established in 1993 and registered under the Societies Act by the students of the Department of Social Work (1991–93 batch) at Loyola College, began its journey with the Children’s Home named Sakya in collaboration with Sakya Sangha. Over the years, though the number of active members and associates has reduced, the organization’s commitment to service has remained unwavering. With more than three decades of involvement in community development programs for women and children, and over two decades of dedicated work through the Children’s Home, Udavum Idhayam has expanded its services to include Homes for Senior Citizens and Physically Challenged Women, while also extending its outreach by running Night Schools in abandoned slums to ensure education and empowerment for marginalized communities. Today, the organization continues to embody its founding spirit of compassion and empowerment, with its prime aim focused on protecting youth from the menace of drugs by conducting sports activities and motivating them to engage in yoga and meditation. These initiatives are carried out across Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, and Thiruvallur districts as one zone, and in the old East Ramanathapuram region covering Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, and Pudukottai districts as a second zone, thereby strengthening communities through holistic development and care.
