In our project area, a considerable number of orphan, semi-orphan, and street children are found. The problem has become increasingly severe due to rapid urbanization and industrialization. Many children are left without parental care due to the death of parents affected by HIV/AIDS, remarriage of widowed or divorced women, family conflicts, lack of love and security at home, and unwanted pregnancies resulting from trafficking or sexual exploitation.
Deprived of care, protection, and guidance, these vulnerable children are often forced into survival activities such as rag picking, pickpocketing, and other antisocial or criminal behaviors. Recognizing this urgent need, we aim to mainstream these children into society and contribute to nation-building by providing them with care, protection, education, and emotional support through our Children’s Home.
The issue of orphaned and street children is acute due to social and economic changes such as urbanization, industrial growth, and natural disasters like recent floods in our area. Factors such as parental deaths due to AIDS, remarriage of widowed or divorced women, lack of emotional security, and unwanted pregnancies among sexually exploited girls have left many children without family care.
Without intervention, these children are at high risk of exploitation and involvement in antisocial or criminal activities, jeopardizing their future and well-being.
We identify orphan and street children through community volunteers, concerned citizens, police departments, and the Women and Child Welfare Department. Each child undergoes assessment, counseling, and emotional support before being admitted to the program.
The project provides:
This proposal supports 50 orphan and street children, including 30 children residing in the home and 20 children supported outside the home.
This project has strong potential to transform the lives of orphan and street children by meeting their basic needs and providing them with education, vocational skills, and life skills. Children will experience love, care, and emotional security similar to a family environment.
With improved confidence and self-esteem, they will grow into responsible, productive citizens and valuable contributors to society. Physically and psychologically strengthened, they will be inspired by values of compassion, philanthropy, and humanity.
Children are identified through volunteers, community referrals, police departments, and government welfare agencies. After assessment and counseling, children are provided shelter in a rented facility within the city. Educational arrangements are made in nearby schools, supported by home tuition. Healthcare, nutrition, and recreation are provided regularly.
The orphanage is currently run with local donations in cash and kind. With limited resources, we support 50 children. However, the number of vulnerable children continues to grow. We seek donor and philanthropic support for the next three years to meet this increasing demand.
Simultaneously, we will continue mobilizing local resources and plan to establish a permanent Children’s Home by acquiring land with the support of donors and well-wishers.
The Children’s Home will have:
A doctor will serve as a medical attendant on an honorarium basis. All children will receive regular health check-ups, medicines, nutritious food, personal care items, one set of books, and two sets of uniforms annually.
The project will be monitored by a Project Advisory Committee (PAC), chaired by the President of the organization as Convener and Member Secretary. Representatives from the funding agency and local district administration will be included as members.
The committee will meet once every three months to review project progress, activities, financial records, and audited statements, and to provide guidance for effective implementation.
The Love Care Center, an integral part of Udhavum Idhayam Trust, began its journey as a closely-knit unit dedicated to providing comprehensive support including succor, shelter, protection, education, medical care, and more. Our commitment extends to ensuring a secure and promising future for our children until they reach adulthood.
What started with just two children , now it has flourished into a thriving community that now embraces more than 150 children. This growth is a testament to our unwavering dedication to improving the lives of parentless and underprivileged children, offering them a loving and nurturing environment where they can thrive and reach their full potential. We are grateful for the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in their lives and invite you to join us in this noble cause.
